The secrets of the biological clock
A conversation with the professor Juan Antonio Madrid
Dear reader,
Welcome to the number 17 of Fissac Magazine! In this new number, entitled The Secrets of the Biological Clock , we have had the honor of interviewing Dr. Juan Antonio Madrid , Professor and Director of the Laboratory of Chronobiology and Dream of the University of Murcia, one of the greatest experts worldwide in this field. With it we talk about the importance of sleep and strategies that we can implement to improve its quality and quantity, as well as other topics of great current relevance such as shift work, the best schedules to train or intermittent fasting.
Accompanying Dr. Madrid's interview we present our classics 6 readings, where we have the participation of 3 representatives of the new litter of scientists who will undoubtedly be references in their respective fields in the coming years. Dr. Laura Álvarez Jiménez , nutritionist and postdoctoral researcher at the University of Castilla-La Mancha, tells us about the role of the exercise about dyslipidemia and its possible interactions with statins, one of the most used medications in the world. Dr. Borja Muñiz-Pardos , a researcher at the University of Zaragoza who participates in the Sub2 project-an ambitious project whose objective is to break the 2-hour barrier in the marathon-and that in its article analyzes the impact of Super-shoes in the physiology and performance of athletes. In addition, we include an article by Dr. José Francisco López Gil , researcher at the Public University of Navarra, which shows us the need to contemplate the study of physical activity, sedentary behavior and sleep as part of the same approach.
Finally, we present our usual signatures. Pedro tells us about the current evidence about a topic of great relevance today such as the consumption of carbohydrates in resistance athletes. Adri analyzes from an evolutionary perspective the origin of obesity and the mechanisms that regulate body fat storage. Finally, Javi directs our attention to a true public health problem: the influence he has in our health where we live, to the point of being able to determine our life expectancy.
Thank you for reading and continuing to make Fissac a place of learning and continuous teachings.
