More and more women choose to give birth for caesarean section without attending to the medical criteria, which in certain cases can lead to important health risks of the mother and the child. One of the consequences is that, by not going through the childbirth channel, the fetus does not come into contact with the mother's vaginal and rectal microbiota, which seems to affect the implementation of the microbiota. A new study analyzes whether to transfer the vaginal bacteria of mothers to children born by caesarean section would compensate the bacteria that would not have acquired through this direct contact and, in turn, could reverse their consequences on neurodevelopment.
